What is Hearing Impairment?

This site gives a wonderful breakdown of the definition and varying types of hearing impairment.  Hearing Impairment

Starting with a description of noise induced hearing loss, the next few pages go on to describe how the ear works and then the various types of hearing impairment such as:  conductive hearing loss, sensorineural (pronounced: sen-so-ree-nyour-ul) hearing loss, auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, mixed hearing loss, central hearing loss, and auditory processing disorders (APD).

The site goes on to say that hearing impairment can occur at different times in life.  If the hearing impairment is present at birth it is considered a congenital hearing loss.  If it occurs later, such as during childhood, the teens or adulthood, it is called acquired hearing loss.  Also, hearing impairment can happen suddenly or over time.

What is really neat about this site is it also has an icon that allows readers to listen to the words on the page as well!
